If Aoba doesn’t pick Koujaku’s route, Koujaku would probably get married in the future to a woman and settle down with some kids. In time, he would even learn to love his wife to a degree. However, whenever he sees Aoba laughing happily with his partner, Koujaku would think that sometime, somewhere in his life, things went wrong. He wouldn’t be able to exactly pinpoint what it is but he would feel the now familiar ache every time. When they’re very old men, Koujaku would hold Aoba’s hand and comfort him like the best friend he is as Aoba sits in the hospital waiting room, crying and praying for the recovery of his partner. He would wonder to himself if Aoba would cry like that if he had to be sent to the hospital and he’d realize that ah…that’s where he went wrong. But by that point, he’d already be too late.
